Antonio Valencia says he is happy to play in central midfield for Manchester United and that the most important thing is to ‘perform with all your heart’.
Valencia has already played in a range of different positions this season mainly because he has been one of few first team stars to not pick up an injury this season and has found himself filling in both in midfield and at right-back.
The Ecuadorian international is a regular performer in midfield for his national side but was brought in by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2009 as an out-and-out winger. Like van Gaal, David Moyes also used Valencia as cover at right-back but Valencia says he will play in midfield if he is asked to.
Speaking to Manchester United’s official website, the 29-year-old said: “Yes, I’ve played there once or twice for United and also for Ecuador.”
“Wherever you’re asked to play, you have to perform with all your heart. The main thing is that you play well and the group is happy with your efforts.”
The winger performed admirably in both games and showed real attacking intent, especially in the victory over Everton at Old Trafford.
More recently Valencia has been found playing either right-back or wing-back given the injury concerns over Rafael da Silva and despite not being a natural defender, Valencia has been solid and given his all in all his performances.
