Following AS Roma’s 2-0 loss to Manchester City and subsequent exit from the Champions League, the Dutch midfielder was immediately part of a Twitter trend started by United fans labelled #WelcomeStrootman, aimed at him because it has been reported that Roma’s lack of European football could help push through a January move.
This story is going to quickly develop over the coming weeks and we’ll be bringing you lots of exclusive content including interviews with Dutch journalists to find out more about his career to date as well as a chat with a Roma based journalist on how his season has gone so far.
Another midfielder who has cropped back up on the radar again is William Carvalho after comments from Sporting Lisbon’s manager which insisted the Portuguese midfielder had offers from English clubs and could leave Sporting. Elsewhere, Antonio Valencia has praised Radamel Falcao for being a motivational player inside the dressing room. The Ecuadorian also insisted United’s squad was all completely behind Falcao and confident he will start scoring goals aplenty sooner rather than later.
Looking ahead to Liverpool on Sunday, the early team news sees Chris Smalling ruled out of the game through a groin toir which means Jonny Evans could be in line for his first start in months.
