Juan Mata hails ‘massive’ victory for Man Utd

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has described his side’s win against Liverpool on Sunday as ‘massive’.

Mata scored the second goal in a 3-0 win just before half-time before cooly setting up Robin van Persie for the third which sealed United’s sixth win on the bounce.

The Spaniard was influential throughout the game and when speaking to the BBC after the match, the 26-year-old hailed the convincing victory.

”No game against Liverpool is easy but it was massive for us today.

“We knew it was massive for our supporters – we pressed hard and scored goals so we did well,” said the midfielder.

But Mata had his head screwed on and is already focusing on the busy Christmas period that starts next week against Aston Villa.

After visiting Villa Park, United host Newcastle on Boxing Day before quickfire trips to Spurs and Stoke are followed by a third away game in a week against either Accrington Stanley or Yeovil in the FA Cup.

“We are scoring a lot and not conceding and we just need to keep going and carry on. In the second half, we played really well and it is a good confidence boost for December. It’s a busy month so we have to keep focused, we don’t have much time to enjoy the wins.”

With players returning from injury, Mata’s performances will do him no harm if he wants to continue being a regular in the starting XI going into a busy period of games.
