Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal and his staff study their opponents closely before every match, according to the man himself.
Van Gaal was speaking in his post-match press conference about Wayne Rooney playing in midfield, confirming his choice of line-up and positions rest on the team’s opponents.
“We have a way of playing that we always take account of the qualities of the opponent.
The manager added, “Our staff are looking always for ways to cause pain.”
It appears van Gaal and his coaching staff pay an incredible amount of attention to each opponent but the manager said earlier in the weekend that the club chef had been giving him tips regarding the history of United vs Liverpool rivalry.
Van Gaal was in jovial mood after the game and referenced the club chef, Mike, once again in his post-match press conference and he is happy at the club’s current run of form.
“We have to improve but we are very pleased because we know how important it is to win against Liverpool,” van Gaal told journalists. “Our cook is happy, my wife is happy so I am happy.”
“I think the most important match is the next match and we have to see match by match,” he added.
“Of course we are winning six matches in a row [and it] is fantastic but we have to improve our play style. I say that every week.”
