Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney once again led by example at Old Trafford as he and his United team mates ran out 3-0 winners against Liverpool.
Rooney scored the opener when he curled home Antonio Valencia‘s pull back on the edge of the box and was the engine behind the United midfield where the captain operated on Sunday.
Playing in a deeper role, Rooney’s touch was assured, his passing was accurate and he helped his midfield team mates overcome the battle with Steven Gerrard and co.
Rooney tends to save some of his best performances for the visit of the city where he grew up and United supporters were quick to pour praise on him after the match.
Rooney really good again.

First game of the season that Rooney won't complete 90 mins. Great performance in the middle of the park.

Carrick, Rooney and Valencia have been brilliant. De Gea as reliable as ever, thus far.

Rooney’s been in some of the best form of his recent career since returning from suspension in November. After missing three matches, Rooney scored against both Arsenal and Hull as well as today and scored three goals for England in the latest international break.
With Rooney and several others hitting top form, United will want to make it seven in a row against Aston Villa next week.
