Angel di Maria has been named as the best foreign based Argentinian 2014 Player of the Year.
Nominated for the award ahead of Lionel Messi having helped Real Madrid win the Champions League with a man of the match performance in the final against Atletico Madrid before playing a key role on route to Argentina’s run to the World Cup final before they lost out to Germany, Di Maria will take a great sense of pride in the award.
Di Maria’s excellent form last season earned him a Premier League record £59.7m move to Manchester United and his electric form at the beginning of the year showed exactly what Louis van Gaal was prepared to pay such big money for him.
Unfortunately, Di Maria injured his hamstring and has had to spend th elast few weeks on the sidelines but having returned to full training, the Argentinian winger is in line to make his return for this weekend’s away trip to Aston Villa.
