Player Ratings: Aston Villa 1-1 Man Utd – Falcao saves the day

by Richard Laverty

David De Gea 7 Wasn’t at his unbeatable best but could do nothing about Benteke’s opener. Thwarted the Belgian later on and was again assured in the air.

Phil Jones 6 Clumsy moments aside, a decent performance from the defender. If he hit some consistency he’ll be crucial to the team.

Michael Carrick 6 Once again asked to fill in at the back but was much more influential in the second half when moved into midfield. Needs a permanent role.

Jonny Evans 4 Beaten too easily by Benteke for the goal, looked off the pace and just doesn’t seem to fit the 3-5-2 system.

Antonio Valencia 5 The full-back was once again carried a good attacking threat but lacked the end product he showed last week. Plenty of effort as usual but not his best showing.

Darren Fletcher 3 Sadly just doesn’t have a place in the team anymore and once again showed United still lack quality in terms of depth. Was brought off at half-time.

Wayne Rooney 7 Once again playing in the midfield, Rooney was instrumental at times, spraying out long passes to the wingers and put in a lovely ball for van Persie early in the second half.

Juan Mata 4 Seems to struggle more and more away from Old Trafford. Did little more than he showed against Southampton, a shame after his Liverpool performance.

Ashley Young 8 Probably United’s best performer. Reacted in the best possible to his jeering, was a constant threat and put in a great ball for the equaliser.

Robin van Persie 5/strong> Struggled to impose himself as he has done lately. Missed a good chance in the first half and a better one in the second. Not his day.

Radamel Falcao 8 Showed what he can do when fit. Caused problems for Villa and created several chances before finishing his day off with a well-taken equaliser.

Tyler Blackett 6 Brought on at half-time and did well. Was strong, not afraid on the ball and looked more confident than in recent performances.

Angel Di Maria 5 Had the spark you would expect but seemed to try too hard to make an impact and was shooting from all angles. Will have better day with more game time.

James Wilson 5 Lively but continued to show his rawness. Made good runs and was unlucky with a late effort.
