Louis van Gaal has praised Ron Vlaar for his performances at the World Cup in Brazil amidst reports he is a January target for Manchester United.
Current Aston Villa defender Vlaar became a key part of Holland’s World Cup side that reached the semi-finals and Van Gaal commented that he was the ‘most important defender’ in his squad.
Whilst Vlaar’s form at Aston Villa goes unnoticed in comparison given the struggles of United’s next opponents, the international is continually linked with a move to Old Trafford next month.
Earlier in the week, ESPN reporter Miguel Delaney reported United were looking at two players to come in next month and it wouldn’t be crazy to believe one could be Vlaar given his former manager’s comments.
When asked about Vlaar on Friday, Van Gaal said: “He was the most important defender for Holland and he is always stable which is important. I was very happy with him.”
With it becoming clear Van Gaal is still a fan of his former player and United still in the midst of a defensive injury crisis with Rafael, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Chris Smalling seemingly all missing from action, ‘stability’ could be the key word should United decide to make their move in January.
