Robin van Persie has revealed his disappointment after Manchester United drew 1-1 with Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.
It was the first time since the Manchester derby at the beginning of November that United had dropped points and ended a six game winning run.
In perspective, the result means United have taken 19 points from 21 and head into the Christmas period in some of their best form in recent years but van Persie was disappointed with the result.
Given the momentum United had built after Radamel Falcao’s equaliser and Villa’s reduction to ten men, many would have expected the visitors to go and record their seventh straight win.
If anything, the red card halted United’s momentum and van Persie took to his Twitter feed to express disappointment and look forward to the Newcastle match.
His usage of “we go on” may be questioned by some supporters given the affiliation of the phrase to Liverpool’s title challenge last season but the sentiment is correct.
The reds and Louis van Gaal can’t linger on a poor result and now have to focus on four games in ten days leading into 2015, three of them away from Old Trafford.
