Mats Hummels unhappy with Borussia Dortmund’s ‘pathetic’ form

by Sam Peoples

Mats Hummels has slammed Borussia Dortmund’s pathetic away performances in a move which will increase speculation he could exit the German club in the near future.

Dortmund slumped to their tenth defeat of the season with a 2-1 loss to Werder Bremen this weekend which leaves them equal on points with Freiburg at the bottom of the Bundesliga table.

It’s been a remarkable fall from grace for Dortmund who won the Bundesliga two years in succession just three years ago and Hummels’ comments after their latest defeat will fuel reports linking him with a move away from the club.

“We’ve managed pretty well at home in recent weeks, but not at all away,” Hummels said.

“It’s pretty astonishing that we are so pathetic.”

As United could well be active in the January transfer window and Dortmund are in such dire form, rumours will gather pace for a potential move to Old Trafford for Hummels.

However, at this stage questions surely have to be asked whether Louis van Gaal would want him. The German international hasn’t been able to captain Dortmund towards any sort of consistent form this season and his lack of pace could leave him exposed in the Premier League.

As it stands, Hummels is a Dortmund player but expect reports linking him with United to continue gaining momentum.
