No sooner had Spanish newspaper AS ran a front cover insisting Louis van Gaal had asked Real Madrid about signing Gareth Bale, reports from COPE in Spain now suggest a €150m bid for Bale has been submitted by Manchester United.

Speaking for Cope, Miguel Angel Diaz said: “Manchester United have offered €150 million for Bale but Madrid does not seem willing to contemplate selling Bale unless the player steps forward.”

What should we make of all these rumours which are gathering pace extremely fast?

One thing is for sure – Van Gaal would love to to sign Bale and it would be a big surprise if he wasn’t interested in signing the Welsh forward. With deep pockets and a desire to have the best players, Bale will be on Van Gaal’s wanted list.

However, any move would depend on whether Bale wants to quit Madrid and having won the UEFA Champions League, Copa Del Rey, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup in his first two years at the Spanish side, it’s surely unlikely he’d want to leave any time soon.
