Marouane Fellaini will miss Manchester United’s match against Newcastle United on Friday as his mystery illness hasn’t yet gone away.
The Belgian had started every game for the club since impressing during a substitute appearance against West Brom back in October but missed the Aston Villa game after he was taken ill.
The cause of the absence in more detail is still unknown but it is bad enough for Louis van Gaal to rule Fellaini out of Boxing Day’s visit of Newcastle.
Fellaini had been in fine form, scoring two goals during his run of games and making himself a permanent fixture in his manager’s line-up.
United appeared to miss his physicality in the midfield against Aston Villa as Darren Fletcher failed to impose himself on the match before subbed at half-time.
With no injury keeping him out, supporters will hope Fellaini overcomes his illness and can return in good time for either the Tottenham game on the 28th or the first match of 2015 against Stoke City, a game tailor-made for the big Belgian.
