Manchester United defender Phil Jones was a shining light earlier in the season as United struggled to adapt to their new 3-5-2 system.
Amidst chaos, Jones put in solid performances but picked up an injury with England which curtailed his form. It is the nature of Jones’s game that sees him pick up silly and unnecessary injuries and leaves supporters frustrated.
Phil Jones can tackle as well as anyone on his day but somehow tends to end up injuring himself rather than his opponent. Against Newcastle, Jones put in a stellar performance before giving away a clumsy penalty.
The two sides of the defender were summed up in one game and he continues to split and frustrate United supporters.
That whole match summed Jones up. Good defender but still so clumsy at times.

Jones needs continual game time to get better. He defends like a child.

Ridiculous challenge from jones, the dopey blert. He'd had a good game until then.

Jones has been solid today. Will be a shame when he gets injured as Smalling is coming back very soon.

That stupid foul is (part of) why Phil Jones will never fulfil all of his potential at United. World class CBs don't do that.

Penalty aside, it will be a big plus to fans to see Jones back in form, especially given the poor form of Jonny Evans. If Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo return to their good form upon return from injury then United could put out a solid back three should Louis van Gaal still with the current system.
Jones will play against Spurs on Sunday and fans will hope for another solid performance.
