Argentinian midfielder Enzo Perez is set to join La Liga side Valencia, ending Manchester United’s prolonged chase for the Benfica star.
Perez has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for several years and was once again linked several weeks ago when it appeared Valencia couldn’t find the funds to complete the deal.
But reports today from Portuguese newspaper O Jogo suggest a deal to take Perez to Spain is done for around €30m.
It would end any interest Louis van Gaal may or may not have had in the midfielder although reports last month suggested United were also chasing his team mate, Nico Gaitan.
Gaitan is still a Benfica player despite rumours he would join Perez at Valencia but one can work under the assumption that United have several targets more important than the Benfica duo.
Whilst United are adamant they won’t buy in January, Roma’s Kevin Strootman is constantly linked, as are defensive duo Diego Godin and Ron Vlaar.
Rumours linking Gareth Bale to Old Trafford have started once again but it is almost certain van Gaal will target defenders and midfielders before going after a star name like Bale.
