Luke Shaw is now closing in on his return to Manchester United’s starting XI and took part in the team’s warm-down after the 3-0 victory over Newcastle.
The 19-year-old has been in training in the last week for the first time since injuring his ankle against Arsenal and it’s a great step towards his full recovery that Louis van Gaal was confident enough with his fitness to play him at Old Trafford.
It’s only a warm-down but it is indicative that Shaw can’t be too far away from fullness:
Better news on Luke Shaw. He joined in the warm down after the final whistle so can't be that far away from a comeback.

However, Shaw’s return would certainly cause a debate about whether Shaw would go straight back into United’s starting XI or find himself competing against Ashley Young for places.
One good thing about Young’s recent form is that there is no pressure on Shaw to return to action until he is completely fit. Young has proven himself to be quite the wing-back in Shaw’s absence, so United will be in no rush to bring Shaw back until needed. That means a recurrence of any Shaw injury is unlikely.
