Tottenham Hotspur vs Man United: Potential 5-3-2 – Same starting XI as Newcastle

by Sam Peoples

In a season of so much chopping and changing, is Louis van Gaal finally going to play the same starting XI for Manchester United in two consecutive games?

Wayne Rooney was superb from his central midfield role against Newcastle and with Michael Carrick alongside him, United remain very calm up until Carrick was substituted by Darren Fletcher.

It was a Paul Scholes-esque performance from Rooney who was pinging passes everywhere, scoring goals and still defending in his own box where necessary. Rooney is a man re-born under Van Gaal.

Defensively, United were relatively untroubled against Newcastle but away to Tottenham should be a different sort of match where they will come under pressure. That being said, injuries dictate United’s teams these days, so all three centre-backs could start against Tottenham in just over 24 hours.

Fitness is what could see Van Gaal make changes but United could potentially put out the same starting XI twice in a row in what would be unprecedented scenes under the Dutchman.
