The Spanish midfielder has been out of action for the last three games with a muscular injury but looks to have recovered in time for United’s game against Stoke City on New Years Day.
Thanks to injuries to both Herrera and Fellaini, Fletcher had to start for United and as good as it is that he has recovered to play for United again, his legs have gone and he shouldn’t be starting any more.
“Ander will be coming back this week,” Van Gaal said after the Tottenham game.
Herrera has had a very up and down start to his United career. He suffered an injury early on but when he returned in October his performances earned him a Player of the Month nomination.
However, he suffered a further setback after fracturing his rib. Herrera returned from that problem to then only run into more issues and has been unable to force his way back into the starting XI.
Herrera has earned plenty of fans at United already thanks to his elegant style of play and United have certainly missed his presence in midfield, so will be keen to have him back as soon as possible.
