The trio all enjoyed excellent form in December and are rightfully up for the nomination but it’s very tough choosing between them because of how excellent their form has been.
Young has been a complete revelation for United this month. Following Luke Shaw‘s injury, Young played at left wing-back and showed the same sort of form which made him one of the best players on the pre-season tour of USA. His final ball was much improved and had the confidence to take players while making sure to stay disciplined and cover defensively as well.
Carrick is considered to be the biggest influence behind United’s resurgence in form and they remain undefeated since his return. It’s not just what Carrick brings as an individual but the whole package of how much he improves his team-mates around him. Especially in Daley Blind‘s absence, as well as defenders at times, Carrick has been fantastic.
As for Rooney, he has led by example once again both in attack and midfield. It’s been from a deeper position where Rooney has flourished recently and Van Gaal will be delighted with the sort of form his captain is showing on a more consistent basis.
