Louis van Gaal praises Man Utd supporters

Louis van Gaal has praised Manchester United’s supporters as the manager closes out his first six months in charge of the club.

Fans have built a close rapport with their new boss since van Gaal took over from David Moyes in June and van Gaal has seemed surprised by their support during difficult times.

The manager almost appeared lost for words after the opening day defeat against Swansea when he was clapped from the pitch but after a difficult 2013/14 campaign, it seems United fans are willing to give van Gaal the time he needs to turn things around.

The club are currently on a nine-game unbeaten run and the supporters are pleased to see the manager turn their fortunes around and spend serious money on world class talent.

Speaking to MUTV ahead of the Stoke City match, van Gaal said the fans have ‘pleased me most’ during his time at Old Trafford, adding ‘they have been amazing.’

“The fans have great belief in the squad and the manager. I thank all of them,” he added.

United’s away support has also been a constant presence during the season and van Gaal regularly goes to clap the following supporters along with his players at the end of games.

With United’s next two games taking place away from Old Trafford, van Gaal will want the supporters to be influential again before United return to action at home against Southampton in just under two weeks time
