Louis van Gaal wants to bring Santos’ attacking sensation Gabriel Barbosa to the club according to the Mirror.
The 18-year-old is making great progress since slotting into the Brazilian giants first eleven after the departure of Neymar last summer and the comparisons to his illustrious countryman have already begun.
The report suggests that Barcelona have a first option on the player that they agreed upon when Neymar joined the club in 2013. If so, any possible move to Old Trafford would be problematic should Barcelona take up that option.
Given his reputation and stature in Brazil, it would be a surprise if Barcelona didn’t make their move off the back of Barbosa’s 20 goals for Santos during 2014.
He has played for Brazil at Under-20 and Under-23 level and is expected to win his first call-up to the national team during 2015 if his good form continues.
Whilst the lure of Spain and playing with Neymar may be an attractive option for the young striker, it seems he is well on United’s radar and Louis van Gaal will pounce should Barcelona not take up the option they have on the teenager.
If no deal materialises, United are also linked with Benfica’s young Brazilian star Anderson Talisca and could make their move for him next summer.
