Man Utd vs Stoke: Potential 4-4-2 formation – Herrera starts but Di Maria injured

by Sam Peoples

Louis van Gaal was frustrated after Manchester United dropped two points against Tottenham Hotspur after one of the most dominant first halves of the season.

However, the United boss will be happy to go into the game on New Years Day on the back of a long undefeated run that goes back to early November.

Stoke City will always be a tough game but United should be full of confidence and the return of Ander Herrera is a real boost.

The Spanish midfielder could come straight back into the starting XI in midfield alongside Wayne Rooney in a 4-4-2 diamond formation with Michael Carrick in the all important anchor role.

Louis van Gaal put out an unchanged XI to face Tottenham at the weekend but fatigue kicked in towards the end of the game, so United are likely to make a couple of changes for Stoke.
