Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata is happy with how he and his team mates have ended 2014 but is looking to improve on his tally of 12 goals next year.
Mata’s goalscoring record since joining from Chelsea is impressive, particularly given the lack of goals from midfield in previous United sides of the last few seasons.
Initially, supporters were unconvinced by some of the Spaniard’s displays despite his impressive strike ratio but his overall form has been much better recently during the club’s nine-game unbeaten run.
And speaking on his own personal blog, Mata is looking to continue improving as United prepare to open 2015 against Stoke City on Thursday.
“We have closed the year with two games in just 48 hours and I think the team did very good against two tough opponents. Personally I felt really well on the pitch and that makes me look forward to the next stage of the season, to keep working hard so we can do even better. Against Newcastle we were the best team and we managed to prove it with nice goals to win the game.”
Reflecting on his own personal statistics, it will be reassuring to United supporters that their popular Spaniard is looking to improve next year.
“Having a look at my stats in the last 12 months, I can see that I have played 32 official games in 2014 and I have scored 12 goals. It’s a good figure but obviously my aim is to have a better 2015, and I work every day for that.”
