The Telegraph have firmly planted Manchester United star Ashley Young on their back page as they cover Arsene Wenger’s quotes that divers should be banned.
During his time at Old Trafford, Young has been booked for diving several times but given the recent furore surrounding Chelsea and players such as Diego Costa, Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic, it seems odd and unfair that Young has been used as the cover for the story.
The image was taken at the start of this season when United drew 1-1 away at Sunderland. Young was booked and was then once again denied a penalty a week later against Burnley.
Sadly, Young first came under fire during the 2011/12 season when he won soft penalties in a short period of time against Aston Villa and QPR and it now appears his reputation is getting the better of him.
Young has been in top form for United lately and diving appears to be the last thing on his mind as he drives at defenders week in, week out from his new wing back role.
Given the new discussions on diving have come about due to Chelsea an some choice comments from their manager, it’s strange that a national paper would use a dated photo of Young to prove Wenger’s point.
There have also been more recent cases further down the divisions, such as the absurd theatrics shown by Brazilian midfielder Adryan at Leeds United.
