Stoke vs Man Utd: Potential 5-3-2 – No Herrera

by Sam Peoples

Ander Herrera is back in training with Manchester United but Louis van Gaal mentioned in his press conference that the Spaniard currently lacks match rhythm.

Could that mean Herrera won’t be deemed fit enough to start against Stoke City on New Years Day?

If Herrera only makes the bench, United may well put out the same starting XI who featured against Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

It was the first time since November 2012 that United fielded the same consecutive line-ups and so long as there are no injuries, there’s every chance the players will be chosen again having had three days to recover from the Tottenham game.

Three games in five days would be a tough ask for any squad let alone the same XI players but with Yeovil at the weekend, some players would be able to have a rest in order to let some of the younger players get some game time.
