Strootman and Hummels considering Man Utd moves – report

by Richard Laverty

The transfer window is creeping up slowly and rumours are already going into overdrive regarding two of Manchester United’s key targets.

The name Kevin Strootman has been placed next to United’s name ever since Louis van Gaal became manager in the summer but a serious injury meant that move couldn’t happen until at least January.

Strootman returned to action for his club AS Roma last month and their elimination from the Champions League has further ignited rumours the Dutchman could make a move this month.

Mats Hummels was identified as a primary defensive target off the back of an impressive World Cup but Borussia Dortmund ruled out any such move.

However, Manchester Evening News journalist Stuart Mathieson believes both could be tempted to make moves with it becoming clear Strootman would be open to a move whilst Hummels is struggling with Dortmund, his side currently sit bottom of Bundesliga in Germany.

”It’s difficult to see the type of players United want coming in the winter, although Mats Hummels is not that happy at Borussia Dortmund, he’s on a winter break now in Germany, he might be thinking about his future, things could change there.

“Kevin Strootman is on a winter break with Roma so he might be thinking about his future so things can happen, but at this moment in time I would say unlikely.”

Whilst United supporters have learnt to take any rumour with a pinch of salt in recent years, the moves for Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao in the summer may give hope that more big names will arrive at Old Trafford very soon.
