The duo were taken off at half-time in what looked like a tactical change by the United boss but his hands were forced thanks to fresh injuries.
Rafael suffered a fractured cheekbone early on but continued to play as did Shaw who played on with an ankle problem. McNair also continued despite suffering a bad head injury which had to be stapled in order for him to stay on.
United are now without a fully fit full-back which means there are likely to be another makeshift defences in the upcoming game against Southampton next weekend.
