McNair battled on with staples in his head against Yeovil

by Richard Laverty

Manchester United defender Patrick McNair showed plenty of bravery against Yeovil Town after being involved in a sickening clash with striker Kieffer Moore early in the game.

As Yeovil took a direct approach, Moore’s head collided with McNair’s with both being left stranded on the ground. The resulting scenario saw the teenager left with his face covered in blood.

Even when being attended to off the field you could visible red marks where bloody had rolled down the defender’s head after the clash.

As the game was playing out, McNair was having his head stapled and bandaged so he could go on despite the sight of Jonny Evans warming up on the touchline.

McNair looked shaken up by the collision after he returned to the action and at times it looked like he didn’t quite know where he was.

But after being moved to right-back in the second half, McNair put in an admirable performance, got forward well and looked to settle down in a new-look back four.

With Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans fit, McNair’s appearances may be more sporadic now but he’s proved himself to be a welcome addition to the squad so far this season.
