Darren Fletcher has revealed his joy at seeing Angel Di Maria return to the Manchester United side after a month out injured.
Di Maria suffered a hamstring injury against Hull before returning briefly against Aston Villa, a game Fletcher was dragged off in at half-time before suffering another, unrelated injury.
Fletcher’s next start for the club also saw Di Maria’s second return but this time the Scotland international got to play alongside the Madrid man.
In a rare 90 minutes, Fletcher was part of the side that beat Yeovil thanks to Di Maria’s late goal calming the nerves and Fletcher couldn’t hide his delight at Di Maria’s return.
“It was a touch of class to dink it over the goalkeeper, a fantastic goal, so credit to him,” said Fletcher.
“He showed exactly what he’s all about, he’s learning quickly and he makes great, intelligent runs as well. He always wants the ball, he gets kicked and he just keeps getting up – he’s that strong.
“We have missed him, but hopefully he’s back now and he can kick on for the second half of the season and be the really important player we know he’s going to be.”
After a lack of game time and some poor performances, Fletcher was relieved of his duties as vice-captain and is expected to leave the club in the summer when his contract expires.
