Ander Herrera returned to the Manchester United starting XI in spectacular fashion against Yeovil Town on Sunday afternoon.
Herrera, who hasn’t started for United since November scored a stunning opener after a frustrating opening hour against the side bottom of League One.
A loose Darren Fletcher pass bobbled up nicely and Herrera used his instinct to smash the ball on the volley into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
The following celebrations ended in the Spaniard picking up a booking but the relief was clear among the players and Herrera was pleased to contribute.
“Of course, we needed this first goal and I thought after that we tried to keep the ball more and play more patiently.
“We then scored a second goal from Angel Di Maria after a fantastic pass from Wayne Rooney.”
Herrera was the best player for United during a game lacking in real quality where the visitors were frustrated by their League One hosts but the midfielder’s performance could see him retain his place in the side when Southampton come to Old Trafford on Sunday.
