Luke Shaw fit to play Southampton after overcoming ankle injury

Luke Shaw is expected to be available for Manchester United’s game against Southampton this weekend.

The Telegraph report that scans revealed no new ligament damage for Shaw and that his substitution against Yeovil Town was more a precaution than anything else.

The 19-year-old suffered ankle ligament damage against Arsenal and only returned to the side for United’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur in late December, so there were fear he may have aggravated his ankle problem but it’s good news to hear that isn’t the case.

With Ashley Young out for at least a few weeks with a hamstring injury, Louis van Gaal will be keen for Shaw to regain his fitness and get back to the sort of performances he was putting in prior to injuring his ankle against Arsenal.

Shaw has had to endure lots of injury problems so far which have hindered his progress at United but the belief is still there that once he has a long run of games under his belt that he’ll begin to show precisely why he is considered one of the best left-back prospects in the world.
