Steve McManaman believes Manchester United will continue to spend big money in the next six months.
With the January transfer window now open, many expect Louis van Gaal to strengthen his defence and a potential move for AS Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman also not out of the question.
The likes of Ron Vlaar, Mats Hummels, Diego Godin, Aymeric Laporte and Ezequiel Garay have all been strongly linked since van Gaal took over whilst Fabian Schar’s name has also popped up recently.
United have all their centre-backs fit but still don’t look solid at the back and it won’t have gone unnoticed inside Old Trafford.
Speaking on BT Sport after the 2-0 win against Yeovil, McManaman said he thinks United will continue to use their big budget, especially in the summer.
With a defence that still looks below par, United fans can expect another summer of rebuilding with other names such as Gareth Bale and Arjen Robben also linked should van Gaal decide to return to his favoured 4-3-3 formation next season.
Seamus Coleman has been strongly linked in recent weeks with doubts over both Rafael’s fitness and form and his most recent setback against Yeovil won’t have done him any favours.
