Former Manchester United manager David Moyes has revealed he decided to take Adnan Januzaj on his first pre-season tour at the club ‘within minutes of watching him’.
Januzaj emerged as one of the brightest talents in many years last season and stood out as most United players struggled to adapt to life under Moyes.
But the Belgian had no experience of what playing under Sir Alex Ferguson had been like and seemed to thrive on his experiences and used his talent to give supporters something to get excited by on the odd occasion.
In an interview with FourFourTwo, Moyes spoke about Januzaj and compared to him to the Dutch legend, Johan Cruyff.
“When I see his poise on the ball, he has characteristics of Johan Cruyff,” said the current Real Sociedad boss.
“Some youngsters get overawed. Not Adnan. I realised that when he came to train with the first team soon after I joined. I decided to take him on tour with the first team within minutes of watching him.
“He wasn’t timid but hungry to succeed. He was one of the tour’s bright spots. He possesses a level of self-assured arrogance, which is a positive as he’s not too arrogant. On the contrary, he’s a bright lad who is mature for his age. He’s a wonderfully gifted player with great balance and the ability to go past people.”
