The odds on Mats Hummels leaving Borussia Dortmund for Manchester United this month have been slashed after reports emerged today that United were eager to sign the German this month.
The defender has been almost constantly linked with a move to Old Trafford since it became clear Louis van Gaal wanted to sign a top class defender and it seemed a move was close in the summer.
Both Dortmund and the player denied the rumours but an awful first half of the season for the 2013 Champions League finalists has seen them spend most of the season in the relegation zone.
Whilst their inspirational captain wouldn’t be too popular if he jumped ship now, reports surfaced this week that the German would be now more receptive to a move.

The world class defender has publicly slammed Dortmund’s form in recent weeks and it appears all is not as well as it was in the summer when the player returned a World Cup winner.
With Hummels appearing to still be a key target of United’s, any move could be accelerated this month by the astonishing decline the Bundesliga side have shown this season.
