Manchester United are expected to announce a deal for Victor Valdes very soon now that a contract has been agreed.
The 32-year-old would be an excellent back-up goalkeeper if reported deals for Anders Lindegaard and Ben Amos go through and it would be quite surprising if there wasn’t an agreement that both were going to leave before Valdes agreed any deal.
As for Valdes himself, he will bring a lot of winning experience to the squad. In his career, he has won an impressive 21 titles including three Champions Leagues.
In a squad which is slightly devoid of experience following the departures of Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic, Valdes could be a strong addition in that respect.
Whether or not he plays much depends on Van Gaal’s willingness to rotate in the cup games but United would certainly be in a better position having just Valdes than both Lindegaard and Amos.
