Manchester United defender Luke Shaw is ready to face Southampton on Sunday despite picking up an ankle knock last week.
The left-back was thought to be a doubt once again to face his former club after missing the first game at St. Mary’s due to his original ankle injury.
But despite coming off at half-time against Yeovil Town last weekend, Louis van Gaal has confirmed the 19-year-old is available for this weekend’s match.
It’s a big boost to van Gaal’s hopes of beating 4th place Southampton on Sunday given the injury to stand-in left-back Ashley Young.
Young suffered a hamstring injury against Stoke City over Christmas and there were suggestions Daley Blind‘s return could be fast-tracked in order for the Dutchman to face Southampton on Sunday.
But with Shaw fit and ready to play, Blind may be able to slot into the midfield role he left vacant in November but it’s more likely he’ll be on the bench against Southampton.
Their win against Arsenal puts them on United’s tails and a win on Sunday will go a long way to restoring United’s place in the top four. With their £30m left-back ready for action, van Gaal will have every faith United can continue an unbeaten home run that stretches back to the opening day.
