While it’s good news for Valdes that he comes straight into the squad as De Gea’s deputy, it confirms the bad news for Anders Lindegaard and Ben Amos that they will almost certainly be leaving Man United when a buyer is found.
Both goalkeepers are part of United’s first-team squad but Van Gaal overlooked them and immediately named Valdes as his new no.2, choosing not to name either of his current deputy ‘keepers.
Prior to Valdes being officially being unveiled, Amos and Lindegaard were already being linked with exits after reports claimed Van Gaal didn’t rate them highly enough and those reports now ring true.
The good thing for both Amos and Lindegaard is that they won’t be sort of suitors and they shouldn’t find it too difficult to get a new club. By wrapping up a deal for Valdes so quickly in January, the duo have been given plenty of time to find a new club before the window closes.
