Ben Pearson is looking forward to making the most of his loan spell at Barnsley and hopes it is something that will lead to more opportunities.

The 20-year-old will have his professional debut if chosen to play for Barnsley today and there are high hopes Pearson will be able to make a great impression.

Speaking to the Barnsley Chronicle, Pearson made it clear he was looking forward to being treated as a more mature player back at United when he returns from his loan spell.

“Our manager says it all the time that, when lads come back, you get treated as though you’re more mature,” he said.

“You feel as though you are more of a senior player when you come back so there is a massive difference.

“I’m looking forward to making my professional debut on Saturday and I want to do well and impress people. I’ve been playing under 21 football for 18 months and I’ve not actually had any experience of playing with men or the first team.

“Hopefully I can play games and score a few. “We’ll just have to wait and see how it goes and how I adapt to the football.

“Hopefully I’ll do well and, you never know, the loan could get extended.”

“He’s a good footballer as well and is thought very high of at Manchester United.” Barnsley boss Danny Wilson

Pearson has long been considered one of United’ best midfield prospects having made great progress through into Warren Joyce’s U21s and this loan spell was the right move for him.

United youngsters have had hit and miss success in recent times with their loan spells but hopefully Pearson makes the most of his at Barnsley.
