German news publication BILD have denied reports that Manchester United have made a £35m bid for Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels.
United have been constantly linked with Hummels since Louis van Gaal‘s arrival in the summer and earlier this week there were reports from several foreign journalists on Twitter that United had made a bid.
Further reports in England also suggested that United were going to make Hummels their top priority whilst ESPN’s Miguel Delaney name-dropped the World Cup winner a prime target this month.
The on-off saga continued at the beginning of the week when Hermann Hummels, the player’s agent and father denied that his son would leave Dortmund in January, despite the defender becoming fed up with the club’s poor form.
But it is almost certain that Hummels must be a key target given the amount of reliable journalists around the world linking the defender with a move to Old Trafford.
Hummels has established himself as a world class centre-back in recent years and his arrival would go a long way to solving the defensive issues Louis van Gaal has come across this season.
Whether or not Hummels arrives in January, it is sure to be a saga that runs into the summer given it’s almost certain the club will be bringing in at least one defender.
