Here is today’s Manchester United transfer news and gossip.
After reports emerged that United had submitted an offer for Borussia Dortmund centre back Mats Hummels, German outlet Bild have poured cold water on the speculation. Bild insist Dortmund have received no offers for Hummels. Several journalists including Christian Martin of Fox Sport indicated that United had submitted a formal offer for the German international and that United were keen on signing the powerful centre back as soon as this month. For now, Bild say there is nothing in this speculation.
Gareth Bale was on the receiving end of jeers and the anger of Cristiano Ronaldo in Real Madrid’s routine victory over Espanyol. Incidents such as this add to the speculation that Bale could be on his way to Old Trafford at some stage in 2015. Bale angered the Real Madrid faithful and the Portuguese superstar in the 72nd minute by opting to shoot (and miss) rather than give the ball to Ronaldo who was better placed to go for goal. The incident seems fairly harmless but given the persistent speculation that United want to lure Bale to Old Trafford, this incident adds to speculation that Madrid could be ready to cash in on their record signing.
Reports from France have indicated that United could be chasing Karim Benzema. Despite recently extending his contract at the Bernabeu, it is speculated that Benzema could fall victim to Florentino Perez’s recruitment policy. Real sold two of their key players last season in Angel di Maria and Xabi Alonso, a move which paved the way for them to sign James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos. Now, it is said that Perez could offload Benzema in a move that would allow the club to pursue Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, having missing out on Luis Suarez in 2014.
United are keeping tabs on Besiktas winger Gokhan Tore, according to Eurosport Turkey. The report indicates that United could make a move for the winger in January and a likely value is around the £5 million mark. Tore has previously spent two years at Chelsea and has now caught the attention of United with some strong performances for Besiktas. It is suggested that Tore could be deployed as a wing back in Louis van Gaal‘s seemingly favoured 3-5-2 formation.
Reports continue to speculate that Fabian Schar is an option for United. Schar was linked with United as early as last November and the speculation around United’s interest has continued, with Miguel Delaney most recently indicating United’s interest in the Basel player. United have a long list of supposed centre back targets and Schar is keeping good company among the likes of Mats Hummels, Raphael Varane and Diego Godin.
Aston Villa are interested in taking Adnan Januzaj on loan according to The Daily Star. Villa join a long list of clubs credited with an interest in bringing in the young Belgian star on loan. Van Gaal had previously insisted that Januzaj would remain at United so as to allow the strongest possible squad for the duration of the Premier League season, however, speculation continues to link Januzaj with a loan move as he looks for regular first team football.
