Manchester United supporters were left bemused when Radamel Falcao’s name wasn’t in the starting XI against Southampton, and even more so as he wasn’t named on the bench.
After playing five games in quick succession over Christmas, it wasn’t a complete surprise to see the Colombian dropped in favour of the returning Angel di Maria but his absence from the bench raised more questions than answers.
In a game where United needed a bit of luck, a poacher to jump on a deflection or poor clearance, Falcao could have been that man but youngster James Wilson took the final spot among the substitutes. Even then, he wasn’t brought on.
Fans were disappointed after the final whistle and believed the 29-year-old could have offered something different on a day the side failed to have a shot on target at Old Trafford for the first time in five years.
Falcao's movement was missed today.

Genuinely thought we missed Falcao though. RVP was always far too deep. Needed Falcao to play off the shoulder. Shoulda, woulda, coulda.

That game was one where falcao could have made a big difference. Strange resting him IMO.

Shaw was indeed brought off with Di Maria also making way after starting his first game since picking up his injury against Hull back in November.
