Manchester United have confirmed Sam Johnstone has joined Preston North End on loan until the end of the season.
As we covered earlier today, Johnstone was recalled from his loan at Doncaster Rovers and United wasted no time in announcing a deal which will see Johnstone join Preston.
Given how well Johnstone’s loan at Doncaster was going, it is somewhat surprising to see him recalled only to be sent out on loan to another League One side.

Although back in December he said he was happy to continue playing at Doncaster on loan, it seems the lure of moving back to Preston was too much for Johnstone.
“I’m very happy to be here,” he told Preston’s official website.
“It’s my hometown, I grew up in Preston and it is a proud day for me and for my family.
“If anyone else other than Preston had shown an interest in me, the likelihood would have been I would have stayed at Doncaster, who have been very good to me, but this being my hometown club it was difficult to turn down.
“My dad played here a long time ago and he is happy and proud and I am looking forward to playing at Deepdale.”
It’s a shame for Sam that he can’t make the step up to the Championship because he is certainly good enough for that level of football but it will be interesting to see how he fares during this loan spell.
At this stage, there has been no confirmation as to whether Johnstone’s loan to Preston is with a view to a permanent deal at the end of the season.
