Angel di Maria was named in the FIFPRO World XI at the 2014 FIFA Ballon d’Or ceremony for what was a fantastic season with Real Madrid.
After forcing himself back into the starting XI, Di Maria was central to Madrid’s UEFA Champions League success and also played a key role in Argentina finishing runners-up in the World Cup.
Past looking at the winners, it’s always interesting to see who the players voted for and in United’s case, we took a look to see who voted for Angel di Maria to be in the Ballon d’Or shortlist.
Lionel Messi voted his compatriot Di Maria as his first choice for the Ballon d’Or which is great to see, as did Bolivia captain Ronald Raldes. Radamel Falcao voted Di Maria as his third choice, Mexico’s Andres Guadardo voted him as a second choice while Peruvian captain Claudio Pizarro voted Di Maria in as his second choice. That’s plenty of South American love for Di Maria.
It should be a confidence booster for Di Maria that he was named in the FIFA World XI and after his very poor performance against Southampton at the weekend, it could help him get his head back in the game straight away.
