Louis van Gaal is hoping to inspire Manchester United’s youngsters to achieve their dreams of playing in the first-team.
The Dutchman has given a senior debut to seven players this season and has continued United’s long-standing tradition of trusting in the youth and giving them opportunities.
“I hope so, I’m doing that always in every club,” Van Gaal said when asked about inspiring the youth.
“It’s also to inspire these lads. They are coming to Manchester United to play in the first team and I hope that they have that ambition. Now the moment has come that a lot of youngsters are playing in the first squad.”
United’s U18s are in action tonight in the FA Youth Cup Fourth Round at Old Trafford (entry is free for all) and Van Gaal has implored fans to attend: “We have in the Netherlands a structure that the best players have to play against each other so they can develop.
“When you start in a competition like this, at this age, it’s fantastic. You can develop yourself much more than if you play against local teams. I hope that a lot of fans will come to see our future.”
United haven’t won the FA Youth Cup since a side with Paul Pogba, Ravel Morrison, Tom Thorpe and co. were successful back in 2011 but Van Gaal will be hoping this year will see United lift the prestigious youth trophy once again.
