QPR vs Man United: Potential 4-4-2 Diamond – Falcao starts

by Richard Laverty

With Robin van Persie almost certainly ruled out of this weekend’s visit to Queens Park Rangers, it may give Louis van Gaal a chance to play most players in their best positions.

Against Southampton, Daley Blind was in defence, Wayne Rooney was in midfield whilst Angel Di Maria played upfront. But an ankle injury picked up on Sunday could mean Rooney is placed up front alongside the returning Radamel Falcao.

With Blind now back in the line-up, it would make sense for the Dutchman to play the defensive midfield role with Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera allowed to influence the game further up the pitch.

Angel Di Maria can take Juan Mata‘s place at the number ten position but when van Persie does return it could see Rooney and Di Maria once again pushed back to more unfamiliar positions.

Indeed, the next few weeks may give van Gaal and supporters a taste of life with players starring in their best positions and Marcos Rojo‘s return could signal the return to a diamond. He and Chris Smalling build a solid partnership as United played a back four in the build-up to the winter fixtures.
