Here is a round-up of today’s Manchester United transfer news and gossip.
Thomas Muller has dismissed speculation linking him with a move to United. Bayern Munich’s Muller has distanced himself from rumours of leaving the German champions. United were reportedly interested in bringing Muller to Old Trafford last summer, but a move never materialised.
Talk of Muller has emerged again but he has downplayed reports: “I think that talk is only for the newspapers. Last summer I extended my contract until 2019. I can’t imagine that someone will try to make an offer. I don’t think that would work.” It looks very like Muller will be remaining at Bayern for the foreseeable future.
Raimond van der Gouw has indicated that he feels the signing of Victor Valdes could fast-track David de Gea‘s Old Trafford exit. Former United goalkeeper Van der Gouw has made clear his surprise at United signing Valdes whilst also outlining that he feels it could help pave the way for de Gea to leave United.
Speaking to BBC World Service Sport he said: “It is possible it could speed up the exit (de Gea) if the relationship didn’t work.” The arrival of Valdes has brought mixed reactions from the United fans due to the increased concerns around De Gea’s future at the club.
Borussia Dortmund are waiting to hear from Marco Reus on his future according to club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke. The German international has a well publicised released clause which could see him leave the club for €25 million, a price tag that would be below the usual market value for the 25-year-old. Dortmund are in the midst of a very difficult season and speculation is rife linking their star players with moves abroad, the club are waiting anxiously to hear where the future of Reus lies and United will be watching with great interest.
Interestingly, as outlined by Sport Witness, Real Madrid’s interest in Marco Reus could pave the way for Gareth Bale to move to Old Trafford. In a great analysis of the Gareth Bale and Marco Reus situations, Sport Witness have explained how Madrid’s interest in Reus could potentially pave the way for United to successfully snare Bale. Of course, this link is dependant on both Madrid’s interest in Reus and United’s interest in Bale being as serious as the reports indicate.
