Louis van Gaal is confident Manchester United will secure a top four finish despite a run of one win in five Premier League games.
United won six games in a row and were comfortably in a top four position leading up to Christmas but a series of draws followed by defeat to Southampton last weekend has pegged back their progress.
The 1-0 loss to the Saints combined with Arsenal’s victory over Stoke has left United in the middle of a battle to return to the Champions League and Van Gaal wants to see ‘fight’ from his team.
“We have to fight for it – a lot of other teams have the same goal. Of course, I think we can do it,” said the boss.
“We are in the area of the top four after 20 games, we have to fight for it, I think we can do it but it’s football.”
United have the chance to put a run of form together in the next two months. After Saturday’s game against QPR, United host Leicester, Burnley and Sunderland in quick succession.
A win against QPR on Saturday should given United some comfort and they will be looking for Manchester City to take all three points against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
