Fellaini explains Januzaj celebration

by Richard Laverty

Marouane Fellaini was quick to make his way back to the Manchester United bench after opening the scoring in a 2-0 win against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

As Louis van Gaal and the coaching staff celebrated, Fellaini made his way straight towards his international team-mate Adnan Januzaj for a quick embrace, almost the forgotten man of Old Trafford.

Januzaj has started just two league games this season and has had to make do with rare appearances off the bench and they have been getting rarer by the week.

Rumours are rife that Januzaj is set for a loan spell away from Old Trafford until the end of the season so van Gaal can get the teenager some first team games under his belt.

Whilst there is no sign the manager has no faith in the Belgian, Januzaj simply doesn’t fit either of the systems deployed by van Gaal so far this season.

In the two games where van Gaal favoured a solid 4-2-3-1 formation, Januzaj was entrusted to start on the wing against both Manchester City and Chelsea but that is the only time the side have played with out and out wingmen.

And Fellaini was quick to dedicate his goal to Januzaj after the game: “He’s (Januzaj) not played a lot this season, he is my best friend in the team, I have to look after him.”
