Wonderkid midfielder Martin Odegaard has turned down a potential switch to Manchester United in favour of joining Champions League winners Real Madrid say reports from Spain.
The saga surrounding the 16-year-old, who made his international debut at 15 last year, has gripped the world of football with Odegaard visiting several big clubs around the world, including United where he met with Louis van Gaal.
Odegaard had initially been linked with a move to Liverpool given his reported support of the club but in recent months the Norwegian star also visited Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Barcelona as the confusion surrounding his future grew with every move.
It appears the 16-year-old has managed to keep calm as the world’s biggest clubs fight each other off for his signature and it now seems the Spanish giants have won the race and AS believe his side Stromsogodset are now ready to negotiate a deal with Real.
The fact Madrid’s B team play in a professional league in Spain and are managed by former Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane may have had a large influence on Odegaard’s decision and the deal appeared to be confirmed when the midfielder was seen attending the recent derby between Real and Atletico.
It will be a blow to Van Gaal and every other team following him giving his undoubted talent and certainly interesting to see how Odegaard progresses in his career having been in the spotlight so early on.
