Andreas Pereira rejects Man United contract offer

Young Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira has rejected the club’s first offer of a contract renewal, says Sky Sports’ Guillem Balague.

The 19-year-old’s current deal is up for renewal and talks of a contract extension have been ongoing this season but the Brazilian midfielder has rejected Man United’s first offer.

Pereira has enjoyed a strong season of progression at Man United. Louis van Gaal gave him his senior debut in United’s 4-0 loss to MK Dons and since then he has trained with the first-team, having made the move up from Warren Joyce’s U21s. Although he has still made a few appearances for the U21s side, he is very much considered a member of the first-team squad.

Having been chosen on the bench for a match day on more than one occasion, Pereira is on the periphery of United’s squad and it was expected that he would be offered a new deal.

What does Pereira rejecting a contract offer mean? At this stage, not much. Man United have plenty of time to renegotiate a new offer. However, if Pereira was to reject another offer then it would become a concern as to why the Brazilian turned down United for a second time.
