Kevin de Bruyne emerges as Man Utd target – report

by Richard Laverty

Former Chelsea midfielder and Belgium international Kevin De Bruyne has emerged as a potential target for Manchester United come the summer.

The 23-year-old joined United’s Premier League rivals back in 2012 but, like many, had to contend with several loan spells before leaving on a permanent basis.

Despite his talent, De Bruyne managed just three league appearances at Stamford Bridge but has been in inspired form for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga this season.

The Belgian has nine goals and 18 assists since moving to Germany and is the most creative player in the Bundesliga so far this season with ten assists in 17 appearances, four ahead of the nearest competitor in Hoffenheim’s Roberto Firmino.

According to reports in his new home, United are preparing to bring him back to England. De Bruyne’s agent Patrick De Koster spoke to SportBild in Germany and spoke of interest in the midfielder: “I know that some clubs are interested in him,” he said.

Whilst not confirming interest specifically by United, it shows clubs are keeping an eye on the midfielder but Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking did mention United directly.

He added: “It is normal that clubs like Manchester United deal with top people. This is recognition of his and our work.”

It also sounds as though Wolfsburg wouldn’t do too much to stand in the way of De Bruyne departing should a club like United come calling and the German side will be aware Louis van Gaal has financial strength going into the summer.
